Your guide through the valley of retirement

Retirement planning isn't one decision, it's dozens of small (mostly irreversible) ones: when to claim, what to convert, what to draw down first. We walk the whole route with you, one decision at a time.

Every plan starts the same way: The Bugle Valley Route

It's the process behind every relationship we build, which includes three to four meetings that answer the big question (Can I retire comfortably?) and the smaller ones underneath it: how do we create our retirement paycheck, how do we reduce what we owe in taxes, and how do we know we're going to be okay.

Strategic Planning

This meeting focuses on the foundation of your retirement plan. We’ll evaluate your desired retirement date, spending goals, Social Security and/or pension strategies, and any other retirement income sources. We’ll determine whether any adjustments are needed before moving forward.

Risk & Legacy Planning

Once the foundation is established, we’ll evaluate the risks that could impact the plan. This includes reviewing insurance coverage, stress testing long-term care and assisted living scenarios, reviewing beneficiary designations, and evaluating estate planning documents.

Tax Planning

Taxes are often one of the largest expenses retirees face. During this meeting, we’ll review last year’s tax return, project this year’s tax liability, evaluate Roth conversion opportunities, capital gain strategies, determine asset location, and build a tax-efficient withdrawal strategy.

Asset Strategy

The plan itself, along with your behavioral tendencies, drives the investment recommendations. For some clients, this may mean a traditional diversified portfolio. For others, it may involve individual bond ladders or annuities to create greater income certainty.

Our Typical Client

Most people we work with are between 55 and 70 — five to ten years out from retirement, or a few years into it. Somewhere along the way they've built between $1 million and $10 million, usually across a mix of retirement accounts, sometimes with a brokerage account, RSUs, or a business on top. You might recognize yourself here:

  • You've started picturing your last day of work, even without a date circled yet

  • Social Security timing, healthcare before 65, RMDs used to feel theoretical

  • You want a straight answer to one question: can I afford the retirement I'm picturing?

If that's where you are, you're exactly who we built this for.
